HIGH 5: HUMANS
Submission Deadline: September 15
Notification: September 21
Online Exhibition: September 30 — October 31
THE FORMAT
HIGH 5 is Decagon Gallery’s short-format Open Call, open for only two weeks. Submit one photograph for $5, and invite one photographer to submit for free. One photograph will be selected as the winner, and that photographer will receive 5 free entries to future Decagon Gallery Open Calls.
HUMANS
There is no single way to photograph a person. Sometimes we come close. Sometimes we watch from a distance. Sometimes a photograph holds someone we have known all our lives, and sometimes someone who was in front of us for only a few seconds.
For HUMANS, we are looking for photographs where human presence matters — a face, a body, a gesture, a relationship, a private moment, a chance encounter, or something harder to name. Portraits, street photography, documentary work, self-portraits, staged photography, family photographs, and experimental approaches are all welcome.
The person does not need to be fully visible, and the photograph does not need to explain who they are. We are simply looking for images that make us feel there is someone there.
ELIGIBILITY
Open internationally to photographers 18 years and older.
All photographic approaches are welcome.
SUBMISSION
Please submit one photograph in response to the theme HUMANS. Single entry · $5. Each paid submission includes one free invitation for another photographer. Invited submissions do not include an additional free invitation.
AWARD
One photograph will be selected as the HUMANS winner and the photographer will receive 5 free entries to future Decagon Gallery Open Calls. Selected photographs will be presented in the HUMANS online exhibition at Decagon Gallery.
