Portal
at the edge of becoming

Curatorial Statement:

There is no singular narrative here. Instead, the exhibition invites viewers to consider the
multiplicity of perspectives and processes that define this open call and the condition(s) we
were interested in. The main undercurrent I was seeking is the presence of a visual tension and
a feeling of instability. A stronger emphasis on questions and not provided answers, perhaps a
sense of wonderment. I feel that this spirit is reflected in the works presented – images that
range from quiet observations to bold interventions in an attempt to push the subject matter
beyond the familiar.

I was very impressed by the breath of the approach to this call, which made my selections
equally challenging. What unites these diverse images and offers a united theme is a shared
commitment to experimentation by individuals who investigated these concepts.

We invite you to engage with the works individually and collectively, to consider not just what
they depict, but how these were created, and why. In doing so, we hope this exhibition offers
not only visual engagement, but also an expanded view of what a portal might be.
