Theme: There Was a Time When We Were Young — A Self-Portrait Exhibition

There Was a Time When We Were Young invites photographers to explore the memories, emotions, and sensibilities of youth — however you define it. Youth may be the distant past, or the present moment. It may be a season of innocence, wonder, longing, rebellion, tenderness, joy, or loss. It may be joyful or complicated; real or imagined; remembered clearly or blurred by time.

We welcome photographs that reflect:

• Personal or collective memory

• Portraits of childhood, adolescence, or young adulthood

• Scenes of play, discovery, or transformation

• The passage of time

• Nostalgia, reflection, or longing

• Fictional, narrative, or staged interpretations

• ​

Submissions may be documentary, conceptual, staged, archival, abstract, or experimental. All photographic processes and styles are welcome.

COMPETITION AWARDS:

• First Place: $500 cash prize and an online Solo exhibition

• *First, Second, Third Place awards include a FREE exhibition catalog (only to countries Blurb delivers to)

• All selected photographers will receive a digital award badge

• Selected work will be published in a printed exhibition catalog available for purchase.

• A short video presentation will be created and shared on YouTube and the gallery website and social media.

ENTRY FEES:

• $5 for one pair of images

• $25 for up to 4 pairs of images

• $4 each for additional pairs of images 5 through 8

• Two additional entries free if submitting 8 paid entries (up to 10 total)

 

IMPORTANT DATES:

• Deadline: March 31, 2026

• Exhibition Opens: April 15, 2026

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

• All submissions must be original works of photography.

• Open to all photographers over 18, worldwide

• Format your files to be at least 2100 pixels on the long side, and under 4 mb.

• Name the files: “FirstName-LastName_title.jpg”
